An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Network Specialist in Networking to join an established Network team based in Hatfield. The successful candidate will need to have proven all round technical understanding of network technologies with excellent communication skills, as you will be working with internal and external customers and need good experience of Cisco routing and switching. As a member of the team you will be required to support our growing network and customer base across the UK and the rest of the world. The role will focus on building and implementing highly technical network and security solutions to resolve customer demands and issues in a timely and professional manner. There will be an opportunity to expand your knowledge in other technical areas and provide assistance to our technical support teams, customers and business requirements.

Role Responsibility

Technical 70%

  • Understand the technical requirements of the business and develop technical solutions to support them
  • Design, build and implement these solutions according to requirements and customer needs
  • Manage the network infrastructure across the Computacenter group with primary responsibility of all aspects of Cisco Collaboration
  • Maintain and support the group collaboration and network infrastructure
  • Fault Management – Assist support teams with in depth ticket and incident management
  • Escalations – Ensure the right technical level input is provided for all assigned escalations
  • Service Integration – Provide technical leadership in the implementation/take on of new customers and services
  • Changes – Manage and implement all Non Standard and Standard Technical requests
  • Pro Active – Provide technical leadership and be pro active, identifying gaps and providing solutions that meet Computacenter and customer expectations

Administration 30%

  • Documentation – It is critical for all customer documentation to be kept 100% up to date.
  • Participate in team and sector meetings
  • Utilise the business tool suite to manage day to day tasks
  • Ensure accurate completion of all projects, tasks, incidents and associated paperwork
  • Updating -  Ensure adherence to version and document control
  • Reporting – achievements, milestones and assist with SLA reporting when required
  • Security - Adhere to customer and Computacenter Security Policies
  • Prepare, complete and present accurate handover documents for customers and support teams 

The Ideal Candidate

Key Requirements

Relevant technical qualifications such as

  • CCNP Collaboration with relevant experience (essential)
  • Good understanding of Data Centre deployments (desired)
  • Good knowledge and experience of Cisco wireless  deployments (desired)
  • Authentication technologies (Ideally Cisco ICE, TACACS, RADIUS and/or RSA)
  • Understanding of virtualisation
  • Experience of working with Cisco Web Services
  • Understanding of load balance and proxy technologies such Citrix Netscaler would be an advantage
  • Ability to understand business requirements to design and deploy as solutions
  • Experience in a 3rd Line Support capacity, with demonstrable experience of resolving complex incidents for multiple customers
  • An in-depth technical knowledge of Cisco Collaboration deployments with good overall understanding of communications technologies.
  • Sound knowledge or experience to troubleshoot complex network issues
  • A broad understanding of Cisco based IT Network infrastructure
  • Experience of Webex, Jabber and other Telephony systems
  • A positive attitude to take initiative, address and resolve problems and generally be pro active
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to take a methodical approach to service issues
  • Contributes to, supports and works within the team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to present complex solutions to management
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Good customer skills

Skills Desired:

  • Sound technical knowledge of Cisco Routing, Switching and Voice with relevant technical qualifications, i.e. Cisco CCNP Routing and Switching, Collaboration, Wireless or Security
  • Excellent understanding and experience of IP Telephony and Video
  • Experience of working with automated orchestration with Cisco Prime
  • Advantage to have working knowledge Check Point and Cisco Security but not essential
  • Experience of working in a busy NOC environment.
  • Good understanding of ITIL
  • Aim to work towards gaining higher level Cisco certifications e.g. CCDE or CCIE, will support to gain qualification
  • Understanding of Cisco ACI and/or Software Defined Networking for both LAN/WAN
  • Willing and able to learn


  • Willing and able to go on-call within 12 months
  • Element of global travel
  • Minimum 5-6 years networking experience
